Mr nutcase research

Mr nutcase is a website where you can create your own designs for a phone case. The phone case can vary in designs and types differing with each type of phone. You can even design your own tablet cases. Each design you do will cost you a certain amount this is Mr nutcases way of gaining a profit. Your choice of design is entirely up to you as you are the one who is creating it not anyone else. So for example if you always wanted a phone case based on the walking dead you can easily create a design and import it on to your chosen phone case




This is a example of a phone case that is designed by a artist so there is the option of buying a phone case that was designed already by professional artists.

Mr nutcase evaluation

Our class had to create a unique design for a phone case. Our phone case design could be related to any topic from sport to gaming. I decided to do a phone case design based on one of my favourite tv shows The Walking Dead. I decided to use the Walking Dead because it is a franchise that is easy to convert to merchandise. The walking Dead franchise has gained millions of pounds from keyring, T shirts, games, trading cards and more but the one thing i noticed that was not done by the Walking Dead was phone cases so i decided to come up with a design for the Walking dead that is simple but effective and embodies the show.

To get inspiration for my design i decided to look at I love Dust which is famed for coming up with many great designs and working with very important clients such as Nike and Adidas. There was a large variety of design types some were colourful and some was just black and white. The main aspect of there designs that inspired me was the way that there logos was designed i thought it always looked nice and fitted well within the design. My target audience is Walking dead fans and people that are 18 and over because of the strong adult themes that the walking dead focuses on as well as the strong violence, gore and horror elements.

I started off my work on the design by writing down 50 words and also putting 20 pictures on to use as inspiration towards my design. I next then drew a selection of sketches which was simple but also a good representation of the Walking Dead. I then came up with my final Walking Dead design which was my own version of the Walking Dead logo. Once i came up with my final design rather than scan the drawing i decided to recreate it accurately on photoshop.To see how my design developed see The Walking Dead phonecase development blog. I went through different development stages changing the text size and how close together they are as well as the actual text style. Once i finished my design i finally uploaded my initial sketches to the blog i first had to scan the sketches onto the computer i did have some difficulties at first as there was not a scanner that worked available eventually i was able to use a scanner and uploaded the sketches onto my blog.

Once i completed my design i then went on to the Mr Nutcase website and imported my design onto the website. Once i imported the design i then placed the design onto the phone case creating my own unique Walking Dead phone case which can be seen below. I did come across some difficulties importing the design as there was no clear instructions on how to do it but after some exploring of the creation suite i finally found out how. Also the logo was very difficult to get to the right size that i wanted and at times photoshop would crash. Also there was no available scanners that worked which was why in the end i had to create it from scratch on photoshop.I did in the end use a scanner to upload my original sketches onto the blog.


Overall i have really enjoyed developing my own phone case design the fact that i could make my own phone case based on one of my favourite tv shows was a very fun experience. There was hardly any difficulties that i had come across overall apart from the importing of the design onto the website.This unit has made me seriously consider designing phone case designs of my own on the mr nutcase website in the future as it would be awesome to have my own custom phone case.

walking dead phonecase development



This was the first stage of the walking dead logo development the text is at its default setting. The words are also all apart from each other.

This is the second stage where as you can see the text style is developed into a style very similar to the walking dead official logo. The text has been enlarged too a size that can fit around the phone case. 

This is the 3rd stage as you can see the walking dead text is identical  but the first word has been made smaller in size to fit with how it is sized on the official logo. 

This is the 4th stage as you can see the smaller word has been placed on top of the A of the walking part just like the real logo. 
This is yhr 5th stage where the dead part of the word has been placed closer to the walking part this is the final adjustment i needed to do.

ilove dust

Ilovedust is a company that focuses on mainly graphic designs. Founded in 2003 they are based in the south coast of England in the city of Portsmouth. They have collaborated with a wide range of brands such as Nike who they have had a long running partnership with. Their designs are unique and full of creativity and craziness. Their clients include Nike,Yahoo,IBM,Red Bull,Bacardi,empire magazine and the Fa. This worldwide partnership has allowed them to branch out to a huge worldwide audience.


This is a design that is inspired by the television series mad men. The colours are limited to 4 colours orange,black grey and white. I think it does a good job because the colours really suits the story vibes. The use of text is limited to 3 letters which are scattered around the picture. The letters that are used are the 3 letters to form the first part of the shows title mad and are big bold and wood. This also reflects the stories feel really well. The image looks hand drawn and seems to be inspired from a famous photo of the main character smoking. The first thing i notice when i look at this image is the characters face his eyes are designed to be very luring and interesting bringing intrigue to what hes thinking. A mix of computer animation and hand drawn methods was clearly used to make this the designer probably drew the image first with a pencil and then used illustrator to create the rest of the image and fill in the colour. I feel the image overall is perfect for this show and does not need any changing.

This is a design for Nikes new show as you can see their is a explosion of air based contraptions such as balloons,planes,parachutes,zeppelins and even animals like birds. This is to promote the shoes unique selling point of a show that can release air through specialised holes. The only colours that are used is grey and green to fit in well with the shoes camouflage colour scheme. The grey is the dominant colour while the green is the more subtle colour. Their is no text used in this design other than the logo of the company Nike. The use of limited text is so that you can focus all your attention on the shoe and whats going on around it and it does this really well. The imagery is unrealistic to a degree but everything on show is possible in real life. The shoe is na piece of real imagery captured by a camera. Everything around it is designed. The amount is perfect for this product because of the no fuss promotion that they are trying to do. The first thing i see when i see this image is the shoe which is brilliant because that is the product we are meant to be focused on everything around it is a afterthought which i look at after i see the shoe. Illustrator and a camera was clearly used to put this together which does a really good job at summing up the product and getting you to focus on it. Again their is nothing i would do to modify the product as it is doing the job that it is supposed to do.

This image is being used to promote the latest mini the idea is that this car can be used to travel anywhere and is very easy to bring to new locations. There is a bunch of colours used such as dark blue and white for the sea and brown for the ropes and boat the city is also brown. The sky is pink with grey clouds as well as white ones. The tyres on the boat are black. The colours do a great job at giving a big scale to what the mini can do and where it can go. Their is no text used instead they use the image itself to give you a message. The image is clearly computer designed and the car is photographed making a very cool convergence of 2 different methods. I think this is a perfect balance of both methods. The first thing i notice on the image is the sea as that is the largest part of the design afterwards i notice the car and then the city and sky I feel this does a good job in bringing focus to the main product. The tools used are illustrator and a camera to take a photo of the car as i explained earlier this is a good convergence of both methods. I feel this design does a great job of bringing focus to the product and also everything else around it. Their is nothing i would do to alter this the image is perfect for the theme of this design.
