Banksy
Banksy is a English graffiti artist and political activist. As well as this he is also a film director and painter. His work is mainly street art heavily filled with satire. The themes are typically dark comedy poking fun at the current world events. He uses graffiti and has a style that requires stencilling. Banksy distributes his work on public surfaces. In my opinion Banksys designs are dark gothic and mildly comedic. I like the fact that the style basically displays the current world and the black and white look sums up how we feel about the current affairs. Banksy rarely uses text and uses imagery to let the viewer think for themselves what the themes mean. From the look of the image it looks hand drawn with no editing used or photography. To improve this image I personally would add some colours but then again thats my personal preference
Blu
Blu is the cover name of a Italian artist his or hers identity is hidden but what we do know is that blu was born in senigallia and has been doing street art since 1999. Blu originally used graffiti to make his works of art but around 2001 he began using paint and rollers. This has allowed him to be able to make designs that are able to have large surface areas and have high volumes of colour. his designs are usually large and ambitious and full of colour such as this image on the side of this building. A lot of the buildings or sites that he has worked on are either neglected or in bad condition. human figures that were either comedic or very serious are typically the main source for Blus work. I really like the contrast in blus designs a colourful bright painting alongside a derelict building gives some life to the old buildings. This image thanks to long rollers and bright colours is hand drawn without technological editing. I would add text to the images to make more sense of the images theme.
sixeart
Sergio hidalgo parades is a contemporary artist who was born in Barcelona. He has had a long career working on works of art since the late 80s. In the mid 90s sixeart moved on to sculptures and painting in the studio. sixeart belongs to a group called the el equipo plastico. His style is extremely colourful and brimming with life. He sometimes try's to come up with art that takes people into his imagination seeing what it is that inspired him to make these paintings. His imaginary world is inspired by a urban setting which I like because its different to the usual imaginary world of paradise. I love how powerful all the colours are making the painting very warm and eye catching. This image seems to have some computer editing used to draw the plans and then the layout of the design is placed on a final sheet then finally coloured in by paint. This artist just like the other 2 rarely uses text he instead allows you to think about the story of the painting in your head. I would add words to the image to add more character but overall I like the thought of being bought into sixearts imagination.
Fruit research
I have chosen to base my character on oranges and lemons because they are 2 fruits that go very well together. I have looked at some imagery of fruit and also I have visited supermarkets to look at the fruits first hand.
These are examples of oranges and lemons that I used for inspiration for my urban juicer.
This is a sketch of my chosen design with annotations to display colour.
This is the template for my final design before creating it.
